This letter is part of a prolonged correspondence during the summer of 2000, precipitated by a scurrilous and mendacious attack on Freemasonry published in the June 19, 2000 issue of the B.C. Catholic..
Refutation of Lopez-Gallo’s original claims were easily made, although he steadfastly refused to recognize historical facts or even acknowledge that they had been sent to him, giving way, finally, only on the issue of Leo Taxil.
The first part of the Rev. Msgr. Pedro Lopez-Gallo’s letter is an irrelevent and potentially misleading interpretation of an earlier correspondence. Note that no mention is made of the fraudulent nature of Léo Taxil’s claim. Also note that no mention is made of publishing a retraction.
After repeated requests, the B.C. Catholic published a retraction on August 28, 2000.
