Lawyer and Conservative MLA for the Province of Canada from 1844, Sir John Alexander Macdonald was Canada’s first Prime Minister from July 1, 1867 to November 5, 1872. He was re-elected on October 17, 1878 and served until his death on June 6, 1891.
