William St. Clair of Roslin, was the founder of the Company of Gentlemen Golfers, later to become known as the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. The portrait was painted by Sir George Chalmers in 1771 and now hangs in the Royal Company of Archers' Hall, Edinburgh.
