Captain Kidd (1945)
Captain Kidd and his partner frame a square and compasses hanging on the captain's cabin wall. [01:17:00]
A story repeated at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Kidd has Kidd rewarding a Mrs Mercy (Sands) Raymond, of Block Island by filling her outstretched apron with gold and jewels. The Raymond family subsequently owned much land in Connecticut and was thus said to have been "enriched by the apron". Apocryphal or not, the reference to an apron is about as significant as cartographic instruments hanging on a sea captain's cabin wall.
