The Onion (1999)
Under the headline, "Billionaires by U.S. from Millionaires" the text reads: "The ceremony, which included a seven-course feast, a secret two-hour Masonic rite of power, and the indulgence in many exotic and expensive pleasurings, was the first such occurrence since 1789, when American millionaires secretly purchased the continent from similarly wealthy British merchants and fur traders following an abortive attempt at revolution."
Under the large headline "Kennedy slain by CIA, Mafia, Castro, LBJ, Teamsters, Freemasons" the text reads: "According to investigators, the assassination appears to have been carefully planned and carried out in strict accordance with both the Skull-and-Bones Blood Rite and Masonic "Killing of the King" rituals."
While The Onion is a humour magazine of social satire and parody, these references to Freemasonry represent the opinions of many within the conspiracy theory community.
