DE FOREST, Henry J. Born Rothesay, NB Can 1860, died Calgary, Alberta, Can 1924. Canadian landscape painter of the Western mountains. No reference. Source CAN. No current auction record or signature example.
De Forest studied at the South Kensington SA in London, the Julién Academy in Paris, and in Edinburgh. After a long sketching trip, he settled in Vancouver in 1898. "Ardently Victorian, he was inclined at first to rather literal interpretation, but later affected more vigorous and brouader brush work." CAN. He made many paintings of the mountains near Banff.
