February 13, 1743 - June 19, 1820
Botonist and President of the Royal Society from 1778 until his death, Joseph Banks sailed around the globe with Captain Cook on the Endeavor in 1768-1771 and turned the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew into a world famous institution.
