The Maltese Falcon (1941)
In the original novel police lieutenant Dundy is described as wearing a secret-society-emblem. In the movie adaptation none of the characters wear any lapel pins with the exception of Joel Cairo, played by Peter Lorre. The pin has not been identified and there is no reason to assume it is masonic. Equally unrelated to Freemasonry is a fictional history reference: "In 1539, the Knight Templars of Malta, paid tribute to Charles V of Spain by sending him a Golden Falcon encrusted from beak to claw with rarest jewels...".

Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet. Directed by John Huston. Writing credits Dashiell Hammett (novel) John Huston (screenplay). 101 min. USA. English. Black and White. Mono.
