Marcus Wolfe is believed to have come to Barkerville from California in 1871, when he is reported in the employ of Isaac Oppenheimer, who entrusted him with his power of attorney to act for him in his absence from the Cariboo.
He relocated to Nanaimo in 1883 where he married Bertha Mayer, daughter of A. Mayer a merchant in Nanaimo, and acted as a Real Estate and Financial Agent with an office in Room No. ll Johnston Block, although he soon became a partner with his father-in-law, under the name of "A. Mayer & Co."
He served as Worshipful Master of Ashlar Lodge No. 3 in 1887-1888. As Grand Master, he dedicated the lodge hall of Hiram Lodge, No. 14 and laid the cornerstone of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, both at Comox.
Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful in his business and took his own life late in 1896.
